Entre idéal alternatif et récupération spéculative, quelle place pour le « droit à la ville » dans la requalification des friches industrielles en lieux culturels ?

Abstract : This communication will focus on urban brownfields and their requalification as “third places”, spaces that are flourishing in cities today. The aim will be to show how these sites, that were initially intended to enable city dwellers to reappropriate abandoned structures and turn them into shared living spaces, are often trans-formed into consumption areas for a target clientele; and are thus sometimes far removed from the prin-ciples of mixing and sharing that were originally invoked. Combining field studies from different sites on the Île-de-France region together with bibliographical research, this work will attempt to explore in greater depth the concept of wasteland and the ideas it conveys. Additionally, by studying the new vogue of “temporary use” projects, which aims to valorise vacant spaces in preparation for a future urban project, this paper will attempt to show how approaches that present themselves as creative and alternative actually appear to be part of a largely codified commercial dynamics.
